What we collect on the waitlist

Your email address, the ZIP code you give us if you give one, the referral code you arrived with, which link brought you here, and the time you joined. That is the whole record.

We use it to tell you when seats open near you and to count the friends who joined with your link. We send one email when your first gathering is ready, and nothing else unless you ask.

What we collect as a member

Your first name, your age, your ZIP code and how far you will travel, what you like doing, when you are free, and one line about yourself that you write. Whether you are open to dating here, and, only if you said yes or maybe, who you would like to meet, your answer on kids, and anything that is a no for you.

Which seats you claim, your answer to a gathering's one optional question, whether you attended, and the private answers you give the morning after: sit again, see again, or a concern.

During the preview, your answers live in your own browser and only your claims reach our servers, tied to an anonymous device id. When accounts launch, your answers move to our servers under your account, and this section will say so.

Verification

When verification launches, a government ID and a selfie check confirm that you are one real adult. A specialist verification service does the check. We never receive or keep the document. We keep the result and the selfie.

The selfie is shown to exactly one kind of person: someone you and they both said yes to, on the screen where you plan a first date. Nobody at a gathering sees it, and it is never on a card.

What nobody else sees

Your answers, your feedback, whether you are open to dating, and anything you flag are used to seat you and to keep gatherings safe. No other member sees them. A yes is shown only when both of you said it. You never see who said no, and neither does anyone else.

Venues never learn your name. A reservation is made under the table's name, and that is what you ask for at the door.

How we arrange gatherings

We book with businesses, never with members. Some of that contact is made by an automated assistant that says so in its first sentence, calls only during business hours, honors a request not to be called again, and never records a conversation without consent. Anything it cannot settle is handed to a person.

Storage, cookies, and sharing

Data is stored in a Postgres database in the United States and served by Vercel. The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Your browser keeps your own session and, during the preview, your own answers. Staff use one cookie to reach the operator pages.

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers. We share it only with the services that run the product: hosting, the database, the verification service, the email sender, and, when payments launch, the payment processor. Each sees only what it needs to do its job.

Your choices

You can leave the waitlist or delete your account at any time and we erase your record. Reply to any email from In Common to ask, and a person answers within a few days. Blocks you place are silent and permanent, and the other person is never told.

Who can join

You must be 21 or older and one real person with one account. Gatherings are in public places at their regular hours, and you are a guest of the venue while you are there.

Seats, the window, and refunds

A seat is free to cancel until 48 hours before the gathering. At that point the group is confirmed and the venue is booked. Inside the window the seat is forfeited, because that is what keeps a group whole for everyone else who claimed one.

If fewer than five people have claimed seats at the 48-hour mark, the gathering is called off and every seat is refunded in full before any venue is contacted. Food, drink, and anything you order are paid to the venue on separate checks unless a class fee is stated as included in the seat.

Payments are not live during the preview. When they are, a card processor handles them and we never see your card number.

Conduct

Be honest about who you are and treat the people at your table the way you would want to be treated. The venue or In Common can remove anyone from a gathering on the night. Harassment, dishonesty about your identity, or unsafe behavior ends your membership without refund.

Concerns you raise are read by a person within a day. We may pause or end an account based on attendance, feedback, and flags, and we do not publish anyone's standing.

The rest

In Common arranges groups. Venues, instructors, routes, and other members are not under our control, and you attend at your own judgment. These terms are governed by the laws of Connecticut. We will post changes here with a new date, and keep using the product after that means you accept them.
